What:               Do you have a junior pirate at home?  Someone who just can’t get enough of the high seas and hidden treasure? If so, then set a course for Historic Downtown Stuart. Less than a tank of gas away from most places along the Treasure Coast, downtown Stuart is planning a day of swashbuckling fun for the entire family on Saturday August 9.

Joining the Martin County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) this summer in branding the area the Treasure Coast, the Downtown Business Association (DBA), Stuart Heritage and the city’s parks and recreation department are planning a free, fun filled, treasure themed family event for kids of all ages.

The members of the DBA are very excited about the CVB’s campaign ‘Summer Treasures’ branding Martin County and the area the Treasure Coast. “We think it’s a great concept, it makes perfect sense,” says John Bella marketing chairperson for the DBA, “because historic downtown Stuart is one of the finest ‘treasures’ of the Treasure Coast with historic buildings, great entertainment, fabulous shopping and fine dining. We thought it would be a good idea to host a ‘treasure’ event downtown this summer.”

Osceola Street will be closed to vehicles for the day to make way for pirate ships, where scoundrels of all ages will be able to walk the plank in a pirate parade, hear about the adventures of Captain Digs during story telling time, play themed games and carnival games, and take part in scavenger hunts and dig for treasure. Contests for best pirate costume for children, adults and pets are also planned.

When:              Saturday August 9, 2008

§  10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Where:             Historic Downtown Stuart

The event itself takes place on Osceola Street between St. Lucie Street and Colorado Avenue. The courtesy shuttle, Sail Fish Six, will be on the ‘hook’ shuttling people between the event and parking areas.
