Stuart, FL – (May 2008) The British are coming! The British are coming! Several weeks ago, amid a veritable ocean of dignitaries and local luminaries, Owner Bob Davis, along with his wife, Tracy, and daughters, Kim and Karlee, scooped the first shovelfuls of dirt to break ground on the site of The Sailor’s Return, on the Southwest side of the Roosevelt Bridge in beautiful downtown Stuart, where the spectacular 225 seat restaurant will stand.

The Sailor’s Return, an upscale casual, but not high-priced waterfront restaurant is taking shape and Davis expects the restaurant to be christened about this time next year – right about the same time as a brand-new 182 slip marina owned by the Huizenga Holding Company will make its debut. Sharing in the groundbreaking last week were community leaders like Stuart Mayor Jeff A. Krauskopf, Commissioner Mary Hutchinson, Collin Smith, Steve Brandon , Stuart Magazine Publisher Kim Capen, Commissioner Mike Mortell and City Attorney Paul Nicoletti.

The Sailor’s Return the second dream in the making for Davis and his family. For a dozen years, the Treasure Coast gobbled up very British fish and chips and cottage pie with American gusto at the Jolly Sailor. Things were jolly indeed. And then it was gone, and things haven’t been quite as cheerio, old mates! After giving retirement a shot (didn’t work!), Bob Davis is back on board and at the helm of a new and even more exciting, nautical and delicious venture.

But The Sailor’s Return is more than just a sequel. It’s great food, fabulous atmosphere with a heaping helping of fun and flavor. From the brushed, stainless steel martini bar to the patio seating outside on the water and a shellfish bar that cannot be beat, the Treasure Coast will be cheering for The Sailor’s Return and raising an imported beer in toast. It’s the perfect atmosphere for reading the paper and catching up on the day’s news as you watch the sun rise; a business lunch that’s just as delicious as it is productive, or a delightful dinner and romantic evening out featuring prime rib, fish and chips or chops, you’ll be glad Bob Davis didn’t like retirement and that a new tide has come in just in time for The Sailor’s Return.

Stuart, FL - Today’s the big day.  You would think that Memorial Day itself would be the big attraction that I thought it would be but it seems the start of the event and possibly the biggest crowd magnet will be this afternoon.  The ceremony is set to kick off at 3 PM today and is expected to draw large crowds of people.  Most of which are attending partly because of the protest being held by the Westboro Baptist Church members.

It is confirmed that upwards of a dozen members of the congregation will be attending.  If you are attending, they will be the group of Phelps family members and a few straglers holding up signs like “Thank God for dead soldiers” or “God hates America”.   They’ll be in the area to the East of the park that is cordoned off with orange construction mesh fencing and orange cones and they plan on showing up early.  There will be large groups of patriots on-hand to insure the protesters don’t step over the proverbial line, which they are sure to do.  I hope and pray that their protest remains a peaceful one and that they do not become the highlight of this Memorial Day Tribute.

Let’s remember why we’re all here.  This is not about these loones but about our fallen heroes, honor their memory and their sacrifice.
